02/ Fiddle

Fiddle app focuses on introducing play therapy to children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

Play therapy is a tool for helping autistic children become more fully themselves by developing social skills and enhancing their artistic abilities.

Scope 🔎

ASD Friendly Design

Through a thorough understanding and detailed research of the various aspects and treatments of autism, this app focuses on integrating auditory, verbal, sensory and spatial facets of a child while playing the game.

Contrary to the popular belief, autistic kids; despite lagging on social skills show an exemplary aptitude for arithmetic and visual abilities and are often quicker than regular kids when it comes to artistic tasks.

Designing for Kids

Designing interfaces and apps for kids is not just a matter of simplification or making the buttons bigger, it requires us to consider interaction models and user experience from the child’s perspective.

Exploration and Concept Development 🤔

Time to Fiddle

To make the entire experience enjoyable and gratifying for kids. I tried to enhance their learning process by introducing play therapy. It was my time to finally fiddle around and design an app that would satisfy my learning.

To gamify the experience; I introduced rewards. Fascinating badges were implemented to promote an encouraging and supportive atmosphere for kids. Gold stars were awarded in order to motivate the kids to perform better.

Focus Areas 👩🏻‍💻

Cognitive and

Social Developments

I chose to narrow down my project scope to intrapersonal development while addressing the social challenges faced by kids diagnosed with ASD.

01 / Difficulty in Reading Expressions

Designing a game that allows the kid to learn new expressions. Active feedback and response will help the remember these expressions quicker.

02 / Inclined towards creating art

Limiting the spectrum of colours to the ones that autistic kids respond to well, will encourage them to wear their creativity hats.

03 / Probably don't hate maths

To enhance their arithmetic abilities, games of various level of difficulties are added in the learning module.

Final Outcome 🌈

From Sketch to Prototype

01 /
Promote Mistakes

Rather than a right or wrong answer; it’s important to let children be creative, make mistakes and learn from them.

This helps in cognitive development and increases their creativity.

02 /
Let them be their own guides

Instead of having to unlock each level at various stages, the kids should be able to choose the difficulty level and engage with them.

03 /
Don't overload the with text

Kids are visual learners. We shouldn't expect them to read all the information on a page. Instead we should find ways in which we can replace text with illustrations and recognisable icons.
